Electric Cars

Electric cars are cars that run only on electric power, unlike hybrids, which use electric and gasoline power. In electric cars, a large battery is charged by plugging the car in to the electric grid overnight. The battery powers an electric motor, which drives the wheels.

Electric cars are inexpensive to operate and cause minimal environmental damage compared to gasoline vehicles. However, they have some downsides to them including that they are slow, have limited range before a charge is needed, are smaller, and have less safety features. Batteries also have limited recharge cycles, and are expensive to replace. The Chevrolet Volt concept is an example of a car that runs on purely electric power.
